There, the conference venue is very close to Item No. 2 (Hotel Grauer Bär).

Access

By plane

Innsbruck Airport:
Innsbruck has a small international airport with direct connections to many European cities, among them Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Vienna. The city center can be reached by taxi (3.5 km, 10 minutes) or by bus line F (“Innsbruck, Flughafen”).

Munich Airport:
A big international airport in Germany at only two hours' driving distance to Innsbruck. You can reach Innsbruck by bus, train, or airport shuttle service. The latter requires a valid mobile phone number for booking. This can be provided by the conference organization upon request.

By train

The Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) provide viable train connections to a number of European cities, among them Munich, Berlin, Prague, Budapest, Ljubljana, Zagreb, Rome, Zurich, and Paris. Innsbruck Main Station is in walking distance to the conference venue (approx. 11 minutes). The city center can be reached by a number of tram and bus lines (“Innsbruck, Hauptbahnhof”).

By car

Innsbruck is at the junction of two highways, A12 Inntalautobahn and A13 Brennerautobahn. Note that parking facilities in Innsbruck are limited and rather expensive. Here is an external page with more information on driving a car in Austria.

Getting around in Innsbruck

The conference venue (Faculty of Theology, Karl-Rahner Platz 3) is close to the historic city center of Innsbruck and you will appreciate that many interesting spots are within a convenient walking distance.

In order to reach the conference venue from the very city center, walk towards the Golden Roof, Innsbruck's most famous symbol, turn right directly at the Golden Roof and walk straight ahead until, after 5 minutes, you reach Karl-Rahner Platz, a small square with a Jesuit church.

Bus and tram stops near the conference venue are “Landesmuseum” (bus A, C, J, M, O; tram 1, STB; nightliner N1, N2, N7, N8) and “Polizeidirektion” (bus A).

Detailed timetable information as well as information on tickets and prices is available on the web-site of Innsbrucker Verkehrsbetriebe (IVB). For a conference participant who uses public transport twice on five to seven consecutive days, we recommend a weekly ticket.

Note that several bus lines (including the important line O) have special timetables during the conference because of school holidays. At around 11pm, regular bus service is replaced by nightliners.

Weather

The conference will take place in Innsbruck, Austria, in the midst of the Austrian alps at an altitude of 574m above see. The weather in August is usually quite agreeable but unpredictable. We can hope for warm and sunny days with temperatures ranging between 20°C and 35°C. The nights are usually pleasantly cool with temperatures dropping below 20°C. However, colder temperatures, rain showers, heavy winds and even fresh snow on the surrounding mountains are conceivable. Make sure to consult a local weather forecast before traveling.
